Size guide: measure your table first
Both sizes are 35 in (90 cm) wide. At that width the runner is designed to be gathered and scrunched down the center of the table, usually to 10-16 in of visible width, or laid flat and draped over the sides for a waterfall look.
The stated length is the full runner, end to end, so it includes the overhang. Overhang per end = (runner length – table length) / 2. A 6-12 in drop at each end is the classic look. Gathering uses up a little length, so scrunched drops come out slightly shorter.
| Table | 35 x 71 in (90 x 180 cm) | 35 x 118 in (90 x 300 cm) | Best pick |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round, 48-60 in across | About 5.5-11.5 in drop on each side | 29-35 in per side (puddles) | 35 x 71 in |
| 48 in (4 ft) | About 11.5 in drop each end | About 35 in each end (puddles) | 35 x 71 in |
| 60 in (5 ft) | About 5.5 in drop each end | About 29 in each end (puddles) | 35 x 71 in |
| 72 in (6 ft, seats 6) | No drop: ends about 0.5 in short of each edge. Use it only for a puddled centerpiece that stays on the table. | About 23 in each end: a long puddled drape | 35 x 118 in for a drop; 35 x 71 in for a centered puddle look |
| 84 in (7 ft) | Too short (about 6.5 in short of each end) | About 17 in each end | 35 x 118 in |
| 96 in (8 ft, seats 8) | Too short (about 12.5 in short of each end) | About 11 in drop each end | 35 x 118 in |
| 108 in (9 ft) | Too short | About 5 in drop each end | 35 x 118 in |
6-ft table (72 in): 35 x 71 in gives no drop, so it only works as a puddled centerpiece. Choose 35 x 118 in for a long drape that puddles about 23 in at each end. 8-ft banquet table (96 x 30 in): 35 x 118 in gives about an 11 in drop each end. Round, 4-ft or 5-ft tables: 35 x 71 in.
